Reset Screen Resolution After Selecting Incompatible Settings

Posted on December 22, 2009

Have you ever taken your Windows XP display resolution and set it as high as it would go, and found out that your display cant handle that? If you are trying to rest your resolution the process is real simple.

Unsupported Mode

Boot the computer just like you would to start in safe mode. This is done by hitting the F8 key just after the BIOS is loaded. The best practice is to start tapping the F8 key as soon as you turn on the computer. If you have successfully gotten to the black screen with several different selections one of them being Safe Mode you are in the right place. Now select the “Enable VGA” and hit enter. This will boot your computer with the Default VGA settings. Open the display preferences again and select a setting that does work with your monitor.
